Grace in the Morning
Excerpt taken from Daily Streams

"Come up in the morning...and present thyself unto me in the top of the mount." Exodus 34:2

The morning is the time fixed for my meeting the Lord. The very word morning is as a cluster of rich grapes. Let us crush them, and drink the sacred wine.
In the night I have buried yesterday's fatigue, and in the morning take a new lease of energy. Blessed is the day whose morning is sanctified! Successful is the day whose first victory was won in prayer! Holy is the day whose dawn finds thee on the top of the mountain!

I love the prayers offered in my Puritan Prayer Devotion book The Valley of Vision. Written in the 1600s, the language, sincerity, & humility found in these pages is captivating. I made sure to bring this little gem along this morning to the hospital waiting room to have with me as Keith is back in surgery. He is having his second back surgery this morning almost within a year, this one being much more detailed and permanent. I cannot pretend that I didn't have some anxiety. Keith & I always pray for a verse to hang on to during moments like these and my verse today is found in 2 Timothy 1:12 "...for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." Beautiful words of comfort today as we commit all things into His care. Our surgeon confirmed our comfort when he prayed a beautiful simple prayer with us before he took him back.
Here is an excerpt from my little prayer book this morning...
"There is no comfort in anything apart from enjoying thee and being engaged in thy service,
Thou art all in all, and all enjoyments are what to me thou makest them, and no more.
I am well pleased with thy will, whatever it is, or should be in all respects,
And if thou bidst me decide for myself in any affair, I would choose to refer all to thee, for thou art infinitely wise and cannot do amiss,
As I am in danger of doing.
I rejoice to think that all things are at thy disposal, and it delights me to leave them there."

I know the words are old English... I find that a refreshing change at times. I take heart in these prayers and in the scriptures that give us daily comfort and guidance.
Blessings today in His grace.
